“One of the first things I needed to do when I took the office manager job was find someone to clean our medical office complex.” Janet said. “No big deal, right? I call the temp service and tell them I need someone to come in and tidy up at night. But things weren’t that simple.”
The first issue was that the temp company did not permit their employees to be on the premises without supervision. “They couldn’t be in the building on their own, which I guess was a liability issue,” Janet said. “So I switched my schedule to stay a little later a few nights each week – I have plenty of work to do while they’re cleaning, right? But consistently, the temp would show up late. A few times, they never showed up at all.”
“Coordinating with the temp service turned out to be a whole other issue here. I spent more time on the phone trying to find out is a cleaner coming or are they not? And when the temp did bother to show up, the level of work they did was very poor – I don’t think they even knew how to vacuum the floor!”
Medical Office Buildings Must Be Cleaned to a Very High Standard
“I heard a patient make a comment about the dust bunnies in the corner, and I knew something had to change,” Janet said. “And I don’t know if you realize this, but hiring someone through the temp service is pretty expensive. You’re paying for convenience, but when the people don’t show up or they don’t do a good job, it’s not very convenient.”
“So I knew what I was spending to pay for the temp,” Janet explained. “I called the local medical office cleaning company, and asked them what level of service could we get for this budget? Well, they delivered beyond my wildest dreams. I could have a whole cleaning crew in the facility at any time without having to personally be there to supervise them. The very first day after they cleaned, I knew I had made the right decision – the waiting room looked and smelled great!”
